Harry Speaks Up at Bids Conference
Harry Traynor, Marshes Shopping Centre Manager spoke up about Townwatch at the recent Business Investment District Scheme conference, Tuesday 11th May 2010.
The Dundalk Chamber of Commerce conference relayed how Dundalk Chamber went about framing a BIDS proposal. Delegates heard how the proposal has worked out for both Dundalk and Dublin.
BIDS is a new phenomenon for ratepayers and so the value of input from other jurisdictions to prompt and elevate potential outputs, was invaluable.
Bill Tosh, Executive Director, Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, said;
“Every urban location is facing the very serious dual challenge, to be attractive, offer diversity and also be competitive.
Retention of footfall, individual’s mobility, internet selling, lower consumer spend and the extensive regeneration facing many urban centres, particularly to “High Streets”, suggests that there are few who can afford to ignore the self-help mode, which BIDS offers.
A successful BIDS provides that an element of Commercial Rates is annexed for use by ratepayers on new initiatives to help their businesses collectively sustain. It can do more, because de facto, Town Centre traders and Commercial businesses are forced to collaborate and win together.”
Harry Traynor, Marshes Shopping Centre Manager, said;
"In order to retain footfall and remain successful, we must work together, ensuring a bright future for all."
