Marshes Shopping Centre Support Co-operation Ireland Bike ride

This weekend (27-28 June), Co-operation Ireland’s annual cross-border cycling challenge takes place. ‘Into the East’ will see approximately 500 cyclists participate in the 160-mile challenge over the two days. The event, which raises funds for Co-operation Ireland has been greatly supported by Marshes Shopping Centre in Newry.

Co-operation Ireland, who this year celebrates its 30th year, hope that this year’s challenge will be one of the organisations biggest events. The organisers have listened to what the cyclists want from the ride and have put together a challenge through some of the most breathtaking scenery on the island of Ireland, including the Mournes, the Cooleys and Carlingford Lough. The event will also take in the historic Boyne Valley and Boyne Interpretative Centre.

Co-operation Ireland will hold its party during the weekend, which will give all the cyclists a chance to participate in the organisation’s celebrations.

Co-operation Ireland’s Chief Executive Peter Sheridan who is planning to do part of the challenge said,

“Into the East is a fundraising event that represents the ethos of the organisation. It is the perfect opportunity for like-minded people to meet and get to know one-another. It has been planned to the last detail so that everyone who participates is ensured of a great cycle.

“This is my first time to undertake such a challenge and I hope many others cyclists, both novices and experienced, join me during the weekend. This is our opportunity to do something positive for the good of the whole community”.

Speaking on their support for the event, Harry Traynor from Marshes said “We are delighted to support this very worth while event.  Hundreds of cyclists will be passing through the town  and we hope that when they see the natural beauty of the area around Dundalk they will return for a much longer stay.”
