MUMSTOWN PROVIDES PEOPLE A PLACE TO COMMUNICATE AND NETWORK AND NO EXLUSION IS INTENDED IN ITS NAME

So, you’ve just discovered you have a baby on board, in nine months time you will be a fully fledged member of the yummy mummy club, attending M&Ts mornings, singing nursery rhymes..doing it all! STOP, breathe & read.

The pressure on new mums to ‘do it all’ is immense. Celeb mums appear to pop the baby, leave the exclusive hospital bed looking relaxed and refreshed, lose the baby weight in one week and get back to work within one month. Remember, you are not a celeb - you are human!

1. The early weeks/months of baby raising are tough. Don’t make them more stressful by fretting about your appearance. Top tip - regularly apply a little fake tan. Marshes recommends Johnson Holiday Skin, to give you that ‘new mum’ glow. Available at Boots.

2. It took nine months to put on the baby weight, give yourself nine months to lose it. In the meantime, cover the mummy tummy with dresses and tops nipped in just below the bust. The on trend 60s shift is perfect for disguising little sins. Check out A Wears a-maz-ing retro collection.

3. Organisation, organisation, organisation. Pack and repack your feeding bag before leaving the house. Ensure your schedule remains flexible. Even go the extremes of preparing your and babies daily wardrobe the previous night. If you are organised you are less likely to get flustered and hot under the collar. Mothercare’s range of baby-wear is so on tiny-trend with funky colours, shapes and styles.

4. Let the house work slip a little, especially in the first few weeks. The world will not end if you don’t wash up immediately. Accept and ask for help from family & friends. Don’t let pride get in the way. If nana offers to cook, give her the oven glove and promptly send her to Dunnes Stores, Marshes.

5. Back to porridge. Take your time before going back to work. Be aware of your rights and obligations to your employer. Research child-minding options and be prepared. Mumstown.ie is excellent, providing all the info you need and more.

Becoming a new mum is a daunting experience. Marshes top tip is to remain calm and take it all in your stride. Come along to our mumstown coffee morning the first Thursday of every month in Bagel Bar, Marshes.
